Five staffsminis cars attended the annual 'Cars in the Park' show in Lichfield last Sunday (2nd July). We all had a fabulous day and Sarah brought chocolate cake as Connor was 8 years old (many happy returns).  As per usual we allowed ourselves to get roped into a field event, however this year instead of dragging Skoda's across an arena, we were erecting disaster recovery tents without instructions. We were apprehensive about this activity when first undertaking the task but were confident that we would win when we noted that the other teams were full of pensioners. We were well ahead a the start but finished third although I believe that most of the crowd were cheering for us as we had the banner in the arena and seemed to attract most attention (most likely due to our un-organised approach and supervision from Granddad who was standing outside of the area some 50 feet away). Unluckily we were placed next to the 'BMW Mini club', 'Mini to Mini' who seemed to spend most of the day parading around seeing whose stereo was the loudest playing obnoxious music. In discussion with Lloyd we have decided that if we go next year we shall ask the organiser to be placed somewhere else. Although we had the final laugh as most people were walking straight passed their cars to look at our modest stand. Have possibly attracted some new members to the club during the meeting, with one guy being a middle aged petrol head with a mini based GTM who got on very well with Lloyd. Especially when he was discussing with Lloyd how many times he's had to rebuild his engine. 'Cars in the Park' didn't fail to disappoint with the vast array of vehicles on display ranging from vintage through to modern performance cars with a few mini's spattered in for good measure. I am sure I shall be attending this event next year, hoping that it doesn't clash with any other meetings so that we can get a really good turn out from staffs. Mark AKA Stealth Auto |
